This gentleman looks so dapper on his bicycle.
Gotta love that he rocks a Claus-esque beard, too!

To those who have just recently started following this blog: First and foremost, THANKS SO MUCH for reading! It warms my heart. Secondly,
these photos are making me miss Tokyo like crazy. After living there for nearly four years and returning Stateside last year, my heart still aches for the giant concrete jungle that I had once called home. Photographer
Max Wanger captures the daily
hustle and bustle of my life as I knew it then.

Happy Hump Day! How about we start the day off with this: {Eeek!}
This made me laugh and cringe at the same time. I have no idea if this is creepy or genius or a little bit of both, maybe? Thoughts?

Loving the black and white and zig-zag all over. Plus, what's not to love about Chuck Taylor's, anyhow?

{Woah!} Before you get the wrong idea judging by the name of this post {teehee}, let me just say that I am referring to a breakfast pastry and not what the term "bun in the oven" really implies. Ha! That said, today is my Sunday to concoct a delicious breakfast while the husband sleeps in. Taken from the wonderful food blog gas•tron•o•my, here is an oh-so-delicious recipe for the perfect cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing!INGREDIENTS FILLING
- 3/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
DOUGH
- 2 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting the work surface
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
ICING
- 3 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
- 3 tablespoons buttermilk
- 1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
DIRECTIONS
1. Adjust an oven rack to the middle position and heat the oven to 425°F. Generously coat both a 9-inch nonstick round cake pan and a wire cooling rack with nonstick cooking spray.
2. {Melted butter is used in both the filling and the dough.} Melt the total amount (7 tablespoons) all at once in a heatproof measuring cup, then use it as needed.
3. For the filling, combine the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, cloves, salt, and the 1 tablespoon melted butter together in a medium bowl until the mixture resembles wet sand.
4. For the dough, whisk the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together in a large bowl.
5. Whisk the buttermilk and 2 tablespoons of the melted butter together.
6. Stir the buttermilk mixture into the flour mixture with a wooden spoon until absorbed (the dough will look shaggy), about 30 seconds.
7. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface and knead until smooth, about 1 minute.
8. Pat the dough with your hands into a 12 by 9-inch rectangle.
9. Brush the dough with 2 tablespoons melted butter.
10. Sprinkle the dough evenly with the brown sugar filling, leaving a 1/2-inch border. Press the filling firmly into the dough.
11. Using a bench scraper or metal spatula, loosen the dough from the work surface.
12. Starting at a long side, roll the dough, pressing lightly, to form a tight log. Pinch the seam to seal. Roll the log seam-side down and cut it evenly into 8 pieces.
13. Turn the pieces over on their flat sides, and with your hand, slightly flatten each piece of dough to seal the open edges and keep the filling in place.
14. Place 1 roll in the center of the prepared pan and then place the remaining 7 rolls around the perimeter of the pan. Brush the rolls with the remaining 2 tablespoons butter.
15. Bake until the edges are golden brown, 20 to 25 minutes.
16. Use an offset metal spatula to loosen the buns from the pan. Wearing oven mitts, place a large plate over the pan and invert the buns onto the plate.
17. Place the greased cooling rack over the plate and invert the buns onto the rack.
18. Cool about 5 minutes before glazing.
19. While the buns are cooling, line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper (for easy cleanup); set the rack with the buns on the baking sheet.
20. Whisk the cream cheese and buttermilk in a large bowl until thick and smooth (the mixture will look like cottage cheese at first).
21. Sift the confectioners’ sugar over the mixture and whisk until a smooth glaze forms about 30 seconds.
22. Spoon the glaze evenly over the buns; serve immediately.
Phew! That's a long one but I'm pretty sure that these will be worth the time and effort. I can't wait to bake these! Happy Sunday to everyone!

Any plans for the weekend? I'm planning on staying in tonight with a bottle of wine, a long hot bath, and my DVR'd Grey's Anatomy Season Premiere. Also...(short and sweet)...
1. Buy some freshly-cut flowers.
{They are such an easy way
to brighten up any room!}
2. Play catch-up on the phone.
3. Write letters to friends abroad.
That's all I got!
Have a beautiful weekend!
xoxo,
TFH.
Holy. Crap. I. Cannot. Believe.
This.
A 13 year-old fashion prodigy?! I am blown away by
Tavi Gevinson. She humbly describes herself as a
"tiny 13 year old dork that sits inside all day wearing awkward jackets and pretty hats" and yet there is nothing she should be humble about. She was at NY Fashion Week! And met designers! And attended shows! And her amazingly well-written blog is getting so much acclaim! Well done, Tavi! Bravo to you!PHOTO COURTESY OF: THE WALL STREET JOURNAL
Aren't deer so lovely?

As a way to pay tribute to the late Patrick Swayze, Ryan and I decided to watch The Outsiders last night. Not only did we do that, we also indulged in a lovely
Petite Sirah and (...wait for it...) home-made cheeseburgers! Oh, goodness gracious. First off, I had never seen The Outsiders before last night. Secondly, Petite Sirah's are my weakness. And lastly, who doesn't love a good cheeseburger?PHOTOS COURTESY OF: BOX OFFICE and WE HEART IT, respectively
For those of you following my blog, you already know that I
've implemented the Surprise Sunday Breakfasts. What you don't know is this: last Sunday, I was called in to work early and Ryan was called into work later on that afternoon. We usually have Sundays as our one full day to spend with one another and, well, a wrench was thrown into our plans. So what happened? Well...Ryan has every other Tuesday off and managed to convince me to take yesterday off, too! (
Ssshhh!) The Sunday that was robbed of us was redeemed and it all started with a Surprise "Sunday" Breakfast consisting of Nutella croissants, freshly brewed French-pressed coffee, eggs, and orange juice. {C'est parfait, n'est pas?}

These shoes made me laugh. Self-taught Dutch designer and avid skater
Parra created these
Vans classics with his own post-pop take on them. It's so funny that
Vans has become such a staple in both the skate world as well as the fashion world and more and more people who
don't even skate are wearing them (I am guilty of this). But c'mon. Can you really blame us non-skaters? They're just too cute.
