have a wonderful weekend!

Any plans for this weekend? Tonight, I've got some precious time to read, have a glass of wine, and perhaps write some hand-written letters while Ryan works into the wee hours of the morning. And then this Sunday, I've got a date with my baby brother to go bicycle shopping. I'm in the market for a Dutch bicycle while he's just in the market for anything he can get his hands on. Can't wait!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
xoxo,
TFH.

Doe a deer. A female deer.
(Clearly, deer are on the brain today for some reason!)

cardboard safari.

Am I the only person who finds these cardboard laser-cut deer necessary and adorable?

i miss japan because...

...of the obvious juxtaposition between brutalist architecture and soft and pretty flowers. {Sigh.}

in our talons.

Bowerbirds "In Our Talons" from Alan Poon on Vimeo.

To start your day, some music: I never really knew much about The Bowerbirds and still don't. But. I came across their video for "In Our Talons" and am more than intrigued. Look at how lovely the imagery is! They were here in town not so long ago and now I'm kind of kicking myself for not having gone. Oh, well. There's always next time!

inspiration.

Do any of you ever feel like you've hit a wall? Like, maybe you've been there, done that one too many times? Or maybe you want to do far too many things at one time and have difficulty choosing? Anyone? Anyone? (Bueller...Bueller...) I know, these are all probably questions that each and every one of us has asked ourselves on more than one occasion. Recently, though, I can't help but keep asking myself what to do with myself. Then I came across this lovely bit of inspiration. And everything suddenly felt just a little bit better.

instax!

I know, I know. Some of you may call me a traitor after what I'm about to tell you. But hear me out. Polaroid will always and forever be Number 1 in my heart. But. Upon seeing the Fuji Instax (in white, no less!) my heart melted. Not a little. A lot. And then I got to thinking--why is there such a division between hardcore Polaroid fans and those who want to give the ingenue a chance? I'm torn somewhere in the middle but definitely leaning towards rooting for the underdog. And c'mon! Look at how cute it is, too!

what are you reading?

This year, I told myself that I would start reading more books: non-fiction, fiction, comic, whatever my heart fancied. I thought that a good mix of newer books and, of course, the classics was in order. And so, not so long ago, I started reading Carl Sagan's Cosmos. And let me tell you--mind blowing! All his talk of stars, universes, and the evolution of how things came to be makes me really think twice about life in general. As soon as I'm through with this one, I'm going to delve into one of my favorites and read it all over again as a refresher: Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. So, my dears, I am curious to know--what are you reading?

happy weekend!

Loveliest of readers, what are your plans for the weekend? While Ryan is at work on Saturday night, I'm planning to have a few girlfriends over for some wine, cheese, and board games. Then, on Sunday, an Ethiopian feast awaits us for dinner. I can't wait!

I hope you all have a lovely and happy weekend!

beantown.

These beautiful images of Boston are tempting me. I read somewhere, too, that Boston is the friendliest walking city in the country. The country! Then, my blogger friend Melina (who currently resides in Chicago) elaborated on why she loves Boston so much by telling me this:

Well, firstly, it's considered a Global City.
Boston is as important as San Fran.
But it's technically smaller than most
global cities, and it definitely feels intimate.

Secondly, Beacon Hill, is by far the loveliest
neighborhood to ever walk around, ever.
Between the rolling hills you have to climb to
the cobblestone streets to the French doored
balconies, ohmygod, it's perfect.

Third, which isn't as huge of a deal
for you as it is for me, since you've
already got it: you're right by the ocean.
Which means sailboats and nautical EVERYTHING.

Fourth, you can be in Montreal in under 2 hours, driving.

Fifth, you can be in a ton of different states in under 1 hour.

Sixth, Western Mass is one of the loveliest nature-areas. Ever.

So there you have it. Another city in the continental U.S. that is beckoning for us to move. What will happen? Who knows. Only time will tell...dun dun dun!!!

banh mi for me.

Have you ever tried this classic Vietnamese sandwich called banh mi? Served on a baguette (there's that French influence for you) and filled with all sorts of delicious goodness including but not limited to cilantro, pickled daikon and carrots, pâté, and much much more. My goodness, I could go on forever. I think that this is the one type of sandwich I could eat all. the. time. And guess what. Lunch calls!

dreams.

When you were little, did you ever have dreams of flying? I did. But not nearly as awesome as these photos are. If anything, my flying dreams always included falling to my death (morbid, I know) and waking up just before hitting the ground. Not these! These dreamy images are so inspiring! I love how every child here looks like he / she is having a blast. Don't you wish that real life could sometimes be like this?

all right, enough already.

Yesterday, I had one of those days where everything just felt so heavy and came crashing down at once. I was down, I beat myself up, and I was really hating anything and everything I was doing. I felt like one of those sour-pusses who just can't ever find happiness. And then! I took a nap. A long, much-needed, three-hour nap. When I awoke, the world felt like a better place to be.

So, enough with the ho-humness and my lack of posting. I'm done being lazy. It's time to take charge, and if that means spending more time on the computer even when I don't want to or posting things that make me seem like an angry bitter person some days and a happy-go-lucky girl on other days, so be it. This blog is, after all, documentation of a day in the life of...me, right?

Here goes nothing!

happy valentine's day!

What are you and your love up to? Ryan and I have got a whole day of absolutely nothing planned. And that, in and of itself, sounds like the perfect plan to me. Kisses from me to you.

Yup. That's what I thought.

chili evening.

Tonight is one of those chilly evenings perfect for a bowl of, well, chili. And this chili cook-off print made me want it even more. However, considering the time and how little we have of it to really make a great chili, we're probably not going to be able to make it tonight. Boo. {Insert pout here.}
