the days run away.

Well, the photo above speaks for itself. Can you believe that it is already the end of March? Where did the month go? And more importantly, how fast is this year going? One fourth of the year has come and gone just like that. Crazy. But that only means one thing: Spring is here. {Yay!} Time for lots of sunshine, warmer weather, and time spent with a loved one in the park (preferably with dogs and with delicious gelato). A little less than a week ago, I decided to clean our apartment. On a Friday night just before midnight. With knees on the ground and toothbrush in hand, I scrubbed, swept, mopped, and threw out things we no longer needed. Four hours later, our apartment sparkled. I don't know what overcame me, but I do know that it felt great in the end. It was like the perfect, albeit strange, way to ring in the new season. Hello Spring!

My mom would love this as she was and will always be a Cary Grant fan.

This Ping Pong Door by designer Tobias Fränzel is probably the coolest thing I've seen in a long time. The coolest! {And how cute is that striped dress!? I wish I knew where it came from...}

happy monday!

Okay, okay. So for many of you, Mondays aren't exactly "happy". And I get it. But, Mondays are my Sundays, so I'm glad I get to stay in. And as a result, I thought I'd share some of these beautiful bird prints from ETSY shop Beethings to cheer you up! Mondays don't seem so bad now, do they?

have a wonderful weekend!

Friday is here! Yay! I'm looking forward to lounging around at the brand new park downtown full of books, a picnic, and delicious gelato. What are your plans or adventures?

weekend prefab.

How gorgeous is this prefab home by mid-century designer Jens Risom?! My goodness. I wish Ryan and I could just runaway some place far away and read books and cook and lounge around in this home. {Swoon!}

help me see.

This morning, Ryan and I went to breakfast. At breakfast, somehow, the topic of eyeglasses came up and I was raving about how much I love my frames that I've had for the past four years--Paul Frank's that I bought in Tokyo which I could not find anywhere in the States. When we got home an hour later, I was horrified to find said glasses completely mangled because our greyhound decided to take them off of the night table and ... destroy them. Completely. To the point of no return. Lenses popped, frame completely chewed, hinges twisted like I had never seen them before.

And I cried. I actually cried. Over eyeglasses! Who does that?

So now the hunt for new eyeglasses begins. I went onto the Paul Frank website to search. And while they have some pretty awesome frames, I'm kind of wary to order them online without being able to try them on first. Have you ever ordered frames online? How did that go?

These lovely travel posters by The Heads of State remind me of Mad Men and their ad campaigns. {On another note, is anyone else going nuts waiting and waiting and waiting for the new season of Mad Men to begin?!}

let's go on a bike ride.

Wouldn't it be nice to ride a Dutch bicycle on your way to a picnic in this dress? I especially love the red shoes. Simply charming!

good monday morning!

Lovelies, are you as excited this morning as I am? If you haven't heard yet (which I highly doubt), THE healthcare reform bill reached its magic number of 216 last night which means: history was made because it was passed!!! I don't really like to share my views on religion / politics on my blog simply because I just don't want to offend anyone--to each his / her own, right? But! I am beyond happy about this for a plethora of reasons that I will not list out of respect for those who just don't share my view. In my humble opinion, I feel this is absolutely a step in the right direction and can't help but believe that "Progress" and "Change" are actually happening in my lifetime. What a great start to the week!

have a fantastic weekend!

At last, the weekend has arrived! What are you up to? This weekend, I'm one solo lobo. Ryan has to work on both our days off, so it'll be me, myself, and I. But! That's not to say I can't have a good time! My family is actually coming to see me on Sunday and we're going to indulge in a delicious and authentic Chinese dinner (think Peking duck, dumplings, and more! Yum!). I can't wait!

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!
xoxo,
TFH.

{...}

Yesterday was one of those days. You know the type. The kind where you wake up on the wrong side of the bed and you have an edge about you that you just. can't. help. And it's one of those days because you feel like nothing seems to go right and that everything is going ...or rather... just not going anywhere. You pout, you feel vulnerable, and you want to just burst into tears. But you don't because you're at work or because you're too proud to cry in front of people or even alone meanwhile, you're just feeling so blue and your heart hurts. So you go home and try to pretend that it's all just going to go away. But who are you fooling? You turn to your side and then. Then. Then there's the husband who sits you down with an ice cold and delicious beer from Portland, OR (a gift from friends) and says, "All right. Let's do this." And we sit down and actually plan: the next year, our next move, our life, our future. A time line. A countdown. Call it what you will. It made me so happy and giddy and excited and nervous all at the same time. Butterflies in my stomach galore. Suddenly, one of those days turns into one of those nights where it can't really be that bad all because he put things into perspective.

So where to next?

You'll just have to keep on reading to find out!

letters.

What lovely stationery made from recycled maps! Are you a fan of letter-writing? I'm talking, old-fashioned, pen and paper, sit down at the table, letter-writing. I certainly am and wish I had more time to do it more often. Take today, for instance. I actually took the time to write my friend Kate in Tokyo a proper letter. And let me tell you something, words just look and sound better when you write them instead of type them. There is an air of melancholy with me today and I don't know why. But no matter, I am trucking along. Writing that letter seemed to have helped. What do you guys do when you're feeling pensive?

I am having some serious home envy right now. I happened upon this Brooklyn home while perusing Design*Sponge and was blown away. I am loving how white the whole space is without looking like a hospital. And that kitchen is seriously to die for!

a case of the mondays.

Good Monday morning to you! After a lovely weekend and a stellar performance by AIR, I am definitely having a case of the Mondays today. If you're feeling anything like I am, how about a cuppa to get you through today?

have a romantic weekend!

Dearest of friends, what are your plans for the weekend? It's a music-filled weekend for me and I could not be happier. Tonight, I am seeing The Mercury Program. Saturday, I'm seeing Matt Pond PA. And on Sunday...well, you'll have to wait to find out who Ryan and I are seeing on Sunday. Let's just say that we're going on a mini-road trip out of town for the night and staying in a fancy hotel. Oh, the romance is killing me! Have a great one!

sakura.

It is just about cherry blossom season in Japan and my heart yearns hard for it. It was definitely, by far, my most favorite time of year while I was over there. People would flock together to any and every park there was, set up a tarp on a plot of land, and spend the entire day there having ice cold beers, snacks, and picnic fare all in the company of good friends. Imagine these gorgeous pink and white flowers the size of snowflakes blowing in the wind and landing in your hair. {Sigh.} One day soon.

Oh, me oh, my. Dare I admit it? I think I have a [window] shopping problem. So many pretty dresses, tops, shoes, and spring is just around the corner! What's a girl to do? {Hrmph.}

caravan.

What a lovely idea! Shannon Fricke of Melbourne, Australia writes, "When we visit our grandparents, we sleep in a vintage caravan parked in their driveway. They use it once a year for their annual wild pig shooting holiday but the rest of the time it’s their 'guest room' for visiting family." Not only is the idea lovely, the caravan itself is! Wouldn't you be filled with happiness if you were shown to your guest room and ended up in your own private trailer? Cute!

lunch box.

Good morning! Was your weekend everything you'd hoped for and more? Mine was relaxing and low-key, just like every good weekend should be. Now it's Monday which means it's back to the daily grind. But fret not, at least lunch is just around the corner! I'm a big fan of bringing your own lunch to work. You save money, it's more than likely a home-cooked meal, and it just makes you feel better. So, why not tote your lunch in this stackable lunch box from The Spoon Sisters? {I'm not going to lie--I think that $45 is a bit much for a lunch box...but then again, it kind of evens itself out if you think about how much you spend when you actually go out for lunch. Food for thought.}

happy birthday, beverly!

Today, my little sister turns 26. It is incredibly scary how grown up we are becoming (maybe her, more so than me). In any case, Beverly, if you're reading this, have a fabulous day! Indulge in a long bath, some delicious cake, and a whole lotta pampering from your husband (you deserve it)! I hope to see you very very soon!

xoxo,
Your big sister.

{P.S. Yes, this photo was taken on her birthday, and yet, I'm the one who blows out the candles. Keepin' it classy. Oh, and did you notice the giant bowl of spaghetti, too?}

have a lovely weekend!

Friday is here, at last! What have you got in store for this weekend? Friends of ours are going to be in town for one night only so I'll try to make the most of it and then on Sunday, we're going to have a lazy lunch with my in-laws / Ryan's parents.

I hope you have a lovely weekend!
xoxo,
TFH.

Why is it that little Japanese kids are the most adorable people in the world? I mean, look at this one! A striped shirt, headphones, and a pucker! I'm literally weak in the knees.
