While last year brought the biggest joy in my life, it was also the the hardest, most unfair and cruel year I've ever ever had to experience. As Dickens so eloquently put it, "it was the best of times, it was the worst of times." I have learned so much about myself in the past few months, weeks, days, and even year, that I never knew I could learn and I am happy (excited, even) to say that I still have so much more to discover.
I don't really do resolutions. I try, but let's face it--they're resolutions and while the intention is there, it's really just a little too tedious to try to fulfill every single last one of them and then you're left just feeling disappointed and annoyed. Who wants to feel that at the very end of the year? Some people are amazing at their resolutions. (I mean, just take a look at these.) I've decided on only one resolution this year. This one resolution is a big one because it encompasses so much and will be my mantra, not only for the year, but I have a feeling it will be my mantra for the rest of my life. It will be something that I hope is a guiding light for A because she and I are in this together, you know?
My life resolution is to be brave.
What does that mean? It doesn't mean not giving a shit about what people think; it means that I have to be confident in the face of criticism, that I have to be gallant in the face of danger, and that I have to be courageous in the face of fear. The world can be big and scary, but at the end of the day, it's really just a small place full of tiny destinies that add up to one big story. And no one wants a sad story. So, I am going to be brave.
Happy New Year, everyone.
